Abdominoplasty And Hernia
|
Question: when ones stomach cavity has been opened in a hernia repair
operation, can adipose tissue...fat.. be removed.....and can
the fat that surrounds the internal organes be cut away?
Any comments for me?
Answer: Speaking generally, hernia repairs are extra-peritoneal (i.e., no "stomach
cavity" is opened- I believe you actually mean "peritoneal cavity") unless it
is a laparoscopic hernia repair, in which case the peritoneal cavity is entered
by small (approx. 1 cm) incisions only.
Also, the "fat that surrounds internal organs" (some of which is called
omentum) is not the adipose tissue that is removed during abdominoplasty- this
is subcutaneous fat only that is removed.
Finally, even though the typical hernia repair incision is relatively
superficial, it is not made in the area that is typically approached for
abdominoplasty.
