Liposuction Procedure
|
Question: Did anyone catch the segment on 20/20 ( I think) on the new
liposuction procedure. You are awake, and there are no incisions,
just microscopic instruments used to suck out the fat. The woman who
was having this done was awake and talking onthe phone. I did not
watch this, my husband told me about it. So, where do you get some
information on this? Anyone out there familiar with this procedure or
where to find more information on it?
Answer: I saw the piece.
The instruments aren't exactly 'microscopic', but at least the cannula's
aren't as large as they used to be.
If my memory serves me correctly they said $1500 - $5000
It was an interesting piece. Basically, it's believed to
be a safer procedure than the previous procedure that was used.
Less bleeding, less risk of infection, less painful, quicker
recovery period.
The story did point out, however, that it should not be used
as a "weight loss" alternative to sensible eating and exercise. The people
they interviewed in the story were people who generally ate a sensible
diet and exercised regualarly, but had problem areas that simply would not
go away (perhaps due to genetics?). This procedure was able to "spot reduce"
those areas.
The cost was quoted as $1500.00 on up, depending on the amount
of fat to be removed. The doctor who developed this procedure using the smaller
instruments has done thousands, with no complications.
