Mini Tummy Tuck Recovery
|
Question: I am now 9 days post op after my abdominoplasty. I was in the hospital for
four days and came home with two drains. The drains were taken out yesterday
afternoon. I do have to say that every day I get stronger and the pain
lessens. Some stitches were taken out yesterday, and some remain and I am going
back on Feb 3 to get more out. The surgeon told me that he removed ten pounds
from my abdomen. I have literally hundreds of stitches. There is a line of
stitches from my breast bone extending to my navel - in a circle around my
navel - extending from my navel to my pubic bone - then above my pubic bone and
extending across my abdomen. My husband said I looked like a Frankenstein
monster (although that was when the drains were still in). I was afraid to
look at my abdomen, but on the day of my discharge from the hospital, when the
surgeon took the dressings off, I looked - and I was thrilled - I looked past
all those stitches - and what I saw was that my hanging loose bread dough
stomach was "missing". I was amazed that my lower abdomen is so tight. It is
extremely tight!
Can anyone give me some advice or share with me?
Answer: The word typical is therefore a problem unless you explore a little
more about tummy tuck surgery. A mini-tummy tuck is for a small amount of
extra skin, is usually performed as an outpatient, and has a MUCH smaller
hidden scar. A panniculectomy reduction can mean the loss of an
extraordinary amount of tissue outside the abdominal muscle wall.
The typical tummy tuck is for much smaller problems, is done ambulatory (the
patient goes home before 23 hours of admission), and has scars as shown on the
various examples on my web pages.
Good luck on your continued recovery. Follow your doctor's advice. This type
of surgery has a VERY high satisfaction rate.
