Reverse Abdominoplasty
|
Question: I'm a 21 Years old, who used to be out of shape. For the last 4 months
I've done a lot of running - with good results (weight loss, better
cardiovascular fitness, etc...). I'm now 6'1" tall, weighting only 155
pounds.
The problem is with my tummy - it bulges. I've trained for a month or so with
abdominal crunches and reverse crunches. No good. Maybe I'm exaggerating a
bit, but it looks much like the the tummy of those 70-years-old-folks who go
to the who hang around the neighborhood swimming pool...
1) Training harder. But this doesn't seem to makes things better. In fact,
when I pull it hard inside, my tummy looks good, but then I can't
breathe... "Tummy Tuck" surgery (abdominoplasty). Is this really a
possibility ?
Answer: You don't say how out of shape you were, but if you were obese, your
internal organs like your stomach and intestines were probably extra large
too. It can take a while for things to get back into shape. But some
people just naturally have protruding stomachs. Or perhaps you mean you
have excess skin. Again, it can take a while for that to correct itself.
I'd wait on the tummy tuck.
However, when working the abs, I reccomend doing it like any other
muscle: once a week, and with heavy weights.
If you are basically fit and lean but have a protruding stomach
then you should probably work on your posture. I find that if
I let my hips roll forward then my belly sticks out like
pudge-boy. If I straighten my spine (tuck the butt in and
square the shoulders) and put a little bit of tension on the
abs then the pudge-boy belly goes away again.
Of course, I also have a mild case of spinal curvature, but I
have noticed that very few people walk with good posture
anymore.
