Tummy Tuck Cost
|
Question: My spayed bitch (6 y.o.) used to be a little on the chubby side, but
thanks to lite dogfood, no human snacks, and daily 2-3 mile walk/runs,
she is really starting to look fit and trim!
The only problem is that now the "pooch has a pooch" and it's driving me
nuts. Her tummy has this flap of skin where the teats are that hangs
down and jiggles when she jogs.
Does anyone know if vets can do a tummy tuck, and how much it might
cost?
Answer: This is common in spayed dogs and has to do with the muscles that were
cut to get to the uterus, I believe. It's perfectly normal and has
nothing to do with the health of the dog. It certainly doesn't bother
the dog. An operation to correct it, even if it's available, would be
totally unnecessary and rather inappropriate, I think. Why put the
dog through anastaesia (sp?), surgery, stitches, and recovery for what
amounts to the owner's ego? I'm sorry, I don't mean to start a flame
war or anything, but I think such a surgery would be bordering on
inhumane.
Can't you accept her as she is? She's not changed, you have!
My Darcy has the same problem. After a ligament re-attchment,
she gained weight. After a strict diet, she re-gained a LOT
of agility and a longer lease on life. She had the pooch, but
I didn't care awfully much, she was *active* and *alive* again!
Come on, does it really matter as long as she's healthy and
alive again? Can't you accept this physical fault and love
the dog you've always had?
