Tummy Tuck Forum

Question:

If I lose 90 lbs, will I end up with excess flesh that will require a tuck? Anyone have the experience of losing about that much?

Can you give me some suggestions or advice? I also like some source of information to search myself. However, your experiences is prefered.

Anyone help me?

Answer:

Who knows, you may not need a tuck. Keep your skin well hydrated (drink lots of water) and moisturized (cocoa butter).

I had a tummy tuck and it was the best thing I could have ever done. The decision took five years (after all, it IS major surgery). Depending on where you need the tuck, there will be considerable scarring (mine goes from hip to hip... kinda like a happy face), but for me the scar is much preferred to the horrible sagging.

My insurance covered my surgery... my doctor submitted it as a hernia repair with topical lesions (gee, thanks for that visual... I didn't have lesions). There are hospitals in my area who specialize in weight reduction (including gastric bypass surgery... scary). Typically, excess skin removal is included in their plan... however, they wait a year after weight loss to do it. Alternatively, most cosmetic surgeons have special financing.

Don't let anyone tell you that you *will* have excess skin. You may, you may not. It depends on many factors, including rate of weight loss, age, genetics, and health.

I've lost 65 pounds over 8 months and I have no excess skin at all. I haven't even started to exercise yet (but plan to really soon - the countdown has begun!).
