Tummy Tuck Post Op
|
Question: Was just talking to my vet about a problem my cat was having after she
had dental (had to put under anesthetic for this).
Anyways, she mentioned that it's well known that, for unknown reasons,
in some animals (we're animals too), muscle pain can result from
anesthetics (sometimes the effect is transient, sometimes it's
permanent).
That got me wondering...(about my arm pain which worsened after the
surgery, about FMers in general and muscle tissue damage)
In my cat's case, they used isofluorane (sp?) but I got the impression
that just about any anesthetic could have this effect.
I guess my question(s) would be, if it's a known fact that while fixing
one problem, they could be creating another (FM), why:
a) don't they warn people about this, in case the surgery is "elective"
b) come up with an antidote, to be given immediately after the surgery
to counteract the possible muscle damage of anesthetics.
Answer: First, we're having our 9 month old Golden
Retriever neutered in a few weeks so I'm going to have a good talk with the
vet about the anaesthetic issue beforehand.
Secondly, after my hysterectomy, I had the normal post op pain but to this
day, seven years later, the incisional muscles across my abdomen and down my
left groin tighten, go into spasm and pull like a tight band. The area
still feels numb and tender to touch. I was diagnosed with FM about a year
after the surgery and have never been the same since. I don't know whether
it was the anaesthetia, a botched surgery or a combo, but I've never been
the same since. Makes ya wonder and I've given up trying to get answers
from doctors.
Was the incision just below the navel?
Mine was and after the surgery, I complained to dr about a "band" across that
area. He winked and said "we gave you a bit of a tummy tuck in the
process..it'll stretch eventually"..
it didn't and this past year has been presenting some problems.
Ya gotta wonder when they're doing, if they know what they're doing. Of course,
I never gave permission for this "tummy tuck" and never anticipated problems 20+
years later, but it makes me wonder why they would do such nonsense or whether
they realize the effects such can have, much later, as we age?
