Tummy Tuck Recovery
|
Question: i have some wonders about Tummy Tuck recovery and assitance from husband?
Im scheduled Nov 9 for one and am curious about the extent of help I
will need from my husband. We have 3 kids (littlest ones are 1 and 2 1/2).
I plan 7 days off of work, plus the weekend. A total of 11 days before I
go back. Is it enough time?
Answer: I just had a tummy tuck and hip liposuction in July, so I can share my experience.
I would give yourself at least 2 solid weeks off of work. The main reason for this
is that you are going to have to get the "drains" out before you really get the majority
of your mobility back, and that will probably be a week right there. (Once those are out,
you feel MUCH BETTER.) The other reason is that you will be hunched over (not like a little
old lady, but enough for people to realize that you are hunched over) and that will hurt
your back and cut down on your walking for extensive lengths. I guess if you have a "desk
job" it would be okay, but you will be walking around a bit slower nevertheless, and you
won't be able to pick up heavy things or bend over at your waist. I went to a wedding 18
days after my surgery, and people could not tell that I had the surgery. But if it was a
week earlier, I would not have gone. So, I think 11 days is a little early, and my doctor
said my recovery rate was extraordinary.
As far as "help" goes for the children, I have 3 year old twins, and my mother came and
stayed with us for a week to help. You will not be able to pick them up, and my husband
had to do A LOT more with them while I was recovering. Especially the first few days while
I was still on the meds. You also cannot drive while on the meds (probably about a week.)
Don't get me wrong, I didn't think the pain was bad, but you just will not be as mobile.
BUT GET UP AND MOVING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! It helps speed up the recovery.
